Alliance to improve productivity in the Hunter

TAFE NSW – Hunter Institute and Asset Capability Management (ACM) have signed an agreement to provide business consulting and workplace training to help Hunter industries improve productivity and skill levels.

Craig Hutchinson, Marketing Director, ACM, said the company specialises in providing a three-pronged approach to industry: interviewing customers, talking to employees and reviewing operational practices.

‘This gives us vital information that we use to define gaps in competency and develop and deliver targeted training programs in a unique partnership with Hunter Institute. The alliance enables us to provide real, measurable and sustainable improvements for local industry.’

Hunter Institute’s Faculty Director of Industry and Natural Resources, Rob Wolter, said this specialised approach to industry will go a long way in addressing skills shortages in the Upper Hunter.

‘We know our training will be effective because it is based on sound research of the organisation and targets productivity gains through improvements in workforce capability,’ Mr Wolter said.

The first company to benefit from the new alliance is Hitachi Construction Machinery (Australia) based in Muswellbrook.

Educating the Venue Industry

A partnership between the Venue Management Association (VMA) and TAFE NSW – South Western Sydney Institute is putting a formal Recognition of Prior Learning process into place for students who successfully complete the Public Venue Management School (PVMS) course.

The PVMS is a comprehensive training and assessment program delivered by the Association to its members. As it is not an accredited course, the VMA has worked with South Western Sydney Institute so that the course receives full credit towards the TAFE NSW Diploma of Venue Management.

Graduates from the course are now able to have their skills and knowledge validated to achieve a nationally accredited qualification. This in turn assists articulation into university education.

Management qualifications from TAFE NSW and Australian Graduate Management Consortium

You can now complete a Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma in Management through the Australian Graduate Management Consortium (AGMC), thanks to a unique partnership between TAFE NSW and Charles Sturt University.

You’ll gain a university postgraduate management qualification with all the practical relevance for which TAFE NSW is renowned.

You may be eligible to do the course even if you don't have a degree, although you’ll need to have had some supervisory/management experience and, usually, an existing TAFE qualification in a relevant area.

During the course, you'll participate in active discussions, group problem-solving and sharing your experience. You'll be stimulated by readable learning materials with a practical orientation. And you can choose to learn about specific aspects of a module that are relevant to you.

For more information on completing a Graduate Certificate or Diploma through the AGMC, visit the Australian Graduate Management Consortium website.

TAFELINK – Excellence in marketing award

The Australian TAFE Marketing Association’s (ATMA) Annual Awards for Excellence in Marketing are a highlight of the Australian TAFE marketer’s calendar.

The awards recognise the achievements of TAFE staff and their Institutes in marketing the services and products of the vocational education sector.

This year, NSW Department of Education and Training (TAFE Marketing) has won the Excellence in TAFE Marketing award for the TAFELINK e-newsletter. The other NSW winners were 2007 NSW DET Young Professionals' Network Conference in the Events category; Sydney Institute for two successful programs, the Doyle's Hospitality Traineeship and a partnership with the Australian Institute of Commerce and Language to foster talent in skill shortage areas; and Western Institute for its marketing campaign, Messages for a mature-age market.

The TAFELINK win follows the publication’s recent move to the online space after being distributed in hardcopy for many years. The TAFELINK e-newsletter continues to promote TAFE NSW as a provider of quality training solutions for business.
